iPhone GPS routing roundup turn by turn applications for the iPhone

August 17th, 2009 gregh 1 comment

The past week has seen two big releases on the iPhone GPS routing front.

First out of the blocks was CoPilot Live on the USA App store [get it here] and the UK App Store [get it here] bringing CoPilot’s full-featured navigation experience to the iPhone. Starting at £25.99 and available to download directly to the phone, it includes UK and Ireland maps with 7 digit UK postcodes (unlike some other iPhone navigation products we won’t mention). As with all CoPilot products, maps are stored on the phone not downloaded each trip. There’s no need for extra hardware or monthly fees – just start CoPilot on your iPhone, enter a destination and go there.

Then overnight TomTom released their long awaited application. It appears to have multiple versions:

- U.S. & Canada [get it here]
- Western Europe [get it here]
- Australia [get it here]
- New Zealand [get it here]
For Western Europe there then appears to be country specific (smaller and cheaper) versions:

- Benelux: offered in Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg and covers those three countries
- D-A-CH: offered in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland and covers those three countries
- France: offered only in France and covers France, Monaco, and Corsica
- Iberia: offered in Spain and Portugal and covers Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Gibraltar, and the major islands of the Balearic and Canary Island groups.
- Italy: offered only in Italy and covers Italy (including Sicily and Sardinia), San Marino, and Vatican City
- Nordic: offered in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden and covers those four countries
- U.K. & Ireland – offered only in the U.K. and Ireland

HP Mini 2140, Broadcom 4322AG, European WiFi channels

July 15th, 2009 gregh 1 comment

I just spend many hours trying to track down why my HP Mini wouldn’t connect to my home Wifi network when I set my channel to 13.

After installing varying drivers, I still couldn’t get it to work, so eventually I downloaded the latest drivers, then I searched the registry for Broadcom, and found 3 entries with a Country setting of US. I changed these to GB, re-booted and my HP Mini can now see my Wifi network on channel 13.

January 14th, 2009 gregh 1 comment

Welcome to my new technology and skiing blog. For sometime I’ve been wanting to mention or discuss certain technologies that I didn’t think appropriate for my other two sites, pocketpcsoft and smartphonesoft. So I’ve created this blog site! I’ll be aiming to post news and updates as well as my thoughts on topics including gaming, Macs, iPODS, Windows Home Server, Homplugs and just about anything that piques my interest!
