HP Mini 2140, Broadcom 4322AG, European WiFi channels

July 15th, 2009 gregh 1 comment

I just spend many hours trying to track down why my HP Mini wouldn’t connect to my home Wifi network when I set my channel to 13.

After installing varying drivers, I still couldn’t get it to work, so eventually I downloaded the latest drivers, then I searched the registry for Broadcom, and found 3 entries with a Country setting of US. I changed these to GB, re-booted and my HP Mini can now see my Wifi network on channel 13.

There certainly has been a lot of discussion about Windows 7 in the last few weeks. A lot of folks want to know when they can get their hands on the official RC, when we are going to RTM, and what I had for breakfast.

Browsing Mac Shares from Windows 7

January 23rd, 2009 gregh No comments

I wasn’t able to see my Mac network share from Windows 7 and the single edit to the security policy that worked for Vista, didn’t work for Windows 7.

It turns out a second step was needed, as detailed below:

Start>secpol.msc [enter]

Click on “Local Policies” –> “Security Options”

Navigate to the policy “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level” and double-click it to get its Properties. By default Windows Vista and Windows 7 set the policy to “NTVLM2 responses only”. Use the drop-down arrow to change this to

“LM and NTLM ? use NTLMV2 session security if negotiated”.

Then naviate to the policy Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including secure RPC) clients, double click and untick

“Require 128-bit encryption”

Windows 7 Beta and HP 2530p Elitebook

January 16th, 2009 gregh 2 comments

Last night I installed the Windows 7 beta onto  my HP 2530p notebook. So far I’m impressed, it was very quick to install, and so far my important apps like Microsoft Office, IM and other tools run fine. I found this link on howto get Google Chrome working. I just have two devices I’ve not found device drivers for, if anyone knows what these maybe please let me know!

Problem with device driver Not fixed

There is a problem with the driver for PCI Simple Communications Controller. The driver needs to be reinstalled.

There is a problem with the driver for PCI Serial Port. The driver needs to be reinstalled.
